Making Sure the State Lives Up to Its Obligations

The state of Connecticut, with respect to state employees, is covered by the same workers' compensation laws as private companies in the state. However, as a practical matter, the process of resolving a workers' comp claim can be very different.

The state is self-insured, so your claim will be against the state, not an insurance carrier. However, the task of processing claims is contracted out to a third-party administrator.

Making sure the agency that you work for and the third-party workers' compensation administrator are talking to each other and following up on their agreements and obligations can be tricky. We are experienced at dealing with these issues on behalf of our clients.

Understanding Your Agency's Workers' Comp Policies

Each of the major state agencies has slightly different policies regarding how it deals with workers' compensation for its employees. For instance, certain agencies have specific procedures for employees who are cleared for light duty on a temporary or permanent basis.

Also, certain categories of state and municipal employees — including many employees doing guard duty — are entitled to receive their full lost wages on a tax-free basis, rather than a partial wage benefit, if they are out on total disability.

Contact us to discuss your workers' comp claim with an attorney who is highly experienced at representing state employees. You will not pay attorney's fees unless we help you obtain benefits.
