Occupational Diseases

Occupational Diseases

Occupational diseases include any disease peculiar to the occupation in which the employee was engaged and due to causes in excess of the ordinary hazards of employment as such, and includes any disease due to or attributable to exposure to or contact with any radioactive material by an employee in the course of his employment.

“I didn’t know I was sick.”
After moving to a brand new office building, an office manager develops sick building syndrome.  A butcher contracts pneumonia from going in and out of the meat freezer all day.  A lab technician develops dermatitis from the latex items she handles.

Illness has a way of creeping up on you.  A person can be ill for weeks, even months, before noticing that something is wrong.  Even then, it may not occur to them that their illness is related to their occupation.

If you are ill and believe that your illness is job-related, you may be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits.  To find out more, contact lawyer Ralph A. Russo for a free consultation.

Proving your Case
Proving that a disease is linked to employment is not always easy.  First, we have to have proof of an ailment, and then we have to link it to the workplace.  If someone has cancer or environmental sensitivities, that chain can be difficult to forge.  You need an attorney with knowledge and skill.
